The operator lists six main access lifts: areitXpress from Schüttdorf, cityXpress, trassXpress, Schmittenhöhebahn and Sonnenalmbahn from Zell am See, and zellamseeXpress from Viehhofen. When does skiing start on the Schmittenhöhe?

The operator’s open-facilities page, checked on 8 November 2026, gives 4 December 2026 as the planned start of the winter season and says it depends on snow and weather conditions. The official lift and slope status shows what is open on a given day.[6][4]

Does this page cover Kaprun or Saalbach?

No. Kitzsteinhorn Kaprun and the Skicircus areas are separate ski areas with their own pages. The operator’s map project also lists neighbouring areas, so PisteWindow counts only the reviewed Schmittenhöhe lifts and pistes.[4][1]

Where do the lift status and snow depth on this page come from?

Lift and slope status comes from the operator’s interactive ski map, which is linked from the official site. Snow depth comes from the LWD Salzburg snow station Schmittenhöhe at 1,870 m, close to the summit. There is no valley or mid-mountain measurement, and the page shows the depth as unavailable when the station reports none.[3][4][5]

Are the 780, 1,400 and 1,950 m forecasts for the Schmittenhöhe observations?
